three diet restrictions for leucoderma patientLeucoderma is a pigment loss skin disease, it caused by the melanocyte apoptosis in the epidermis, the leuco means white, the derma means skin, so leucoderma means white skin, it also can called vitiligo. In this article, I’d like to mention three kinds of foods vitiligo should avoid eating. The three diet restrictions for leucoderma patients are foods rich in vitamin C, wines and seafood, foods contains phenol.

1. Avoid intake too much foods rich in vitamin C.

Vitamin C is reducing agent, ti can participate in the metabolism of tyrosine, inhibit the oxidation of dopa, make the formed melanin pigment reduced into colorless substances and make the melanin pigment changed into water soluble glutinous substances and decrease the formation of melanin pigment. The vitamin C exists in many fruits, vegetables and some green leaves plants. There are some fruits rich in vitamin C such as melons, grapefruits, pawpaws, strawberries, citrus, oranges, watermelons, wild jujubes, etc. There are some fruits juices such as grapefruit juice, orange juice rich in vitamin C, there are some fruit juices strengthen the vitamin C such as apple juice, sour fruit juice and grape juice. The vegetables rich in vitamin C includes asparagus, cauliflowers, cabbages, leaf mustard, chilies, potatoes, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and tomato juice. Generally speaking, the content of vitamin C in acidic fruits or vegetables are normally very high. So it is necessary for vitiligo patients to do some restrictions in these foods.

2. Avoid intake wines and seafood.

There are not few cases about after drinking and over eat seafood cause the onset or worsen of leucoderma in the clinical experience. Often these patients have vitiligo one week later after over eat seafood or over drinking. Some outpatients clearly point out the causal relationship between their vitiligo and seafood and wine. Some patients complains every time after they eat seafood and drinking wine, their vitiligo will expand, pay of leucoderma patients said after they drink wines, their leucoderma site only feel itchy, there are no obvious changes in their skin lesion. Some patients work in food service industry or work as a driver, they are hard to abstain wines make the development of their leucoderma hard to control. The pathogenesis of leucoderma might related with the wines can have bad effects to our body, such as it can damage the nerve endocrine function, the liver, the wines also can influence the absorption of protein and zinc. As for seafood, it might cause allergic reaction and cause the immune system disorder. So vitiligo patients should avoid wines and seafood.

3. Avoid intake foods contains phenol.

There are many plant foods contains much phenol, the phenol have cytotoxic effect to the melanocyte. Besides we found the patients with negative diet habits such as food bias, intake too much carbonated beverages, their leucoderma condition often hard to control.
